WHY BUY THIS NEST BOX?
Populations of UK urban house sparrows (or spuggies as they affectionately know) have declined by 60% since the mid-1970s. Research into the reasons for this decline is still ongoing, however, one possible cause could be the loss of suitable nesting sites. Traditionally, house sparrows would nest in the holes in rooves and eaves of old houses as well as in thick hedges and conifers. Increasingly these nesting holes are being repaired or hedges removed and so there is a need to provide purpose built nesting sites. You can help these characterful birds by purchasing and installing one (or more) of our sparrow nest boxes on your home or in your garden.
WHAT’S IT MADE FROM?
Our boxes are made from Duraply – a fully sustainable European plantation poplar plywood with exceptional durability. Fungi and insect resistant even under the most adverse weather conditions, our boxes should give you and your birds many years of pleasure. To ensure that they’re safe for your feathered friends we only use water based and environmentally friendly adhesives and finishes.
